India is expected to receive Rs 10,987
crores in engineering technolo-gy (ET) service
outsourcing by 2008, said Pune-based Neilsoft
Ltd, an ET service company targeting Rs
100 crores in revenue by 2008.
ET services involve activities of design,
planning, construc-tion, analysis, production
plan-ning and preparation using computer
models.
International engineering giants like Boeing,
Airbus, Ford, GM, GE, Black & Veatch,
Caterpillar, Snecma, Emerson and Whirlpool
are already sourcing engineering design
services, either through third, party ET
services organisations or through their
own captive units.
"India is ideally positioned to become
the ET outsourcing hub of the world just
like China has emerged as the manufacturing
hub. The pool of engineering talent available,
language advantage, quality processes and
a matured global delivery model are the
key drivers for India emerging as number
one. Indian engineers will no longer have
to give up on engineering nod pursue an
IT career to benefit financially from the
globalisation mega trend," said Mr
Ketan Bakshi, MD, Neilsoft
"The worldwide ET service market is
Rs. 2,63,700 crores. By outsourcing ET services,
companies can save 30 to 40 per cent in
design costs. We have opened our offices
in China to cater to the Japanese ET service
market The Indian IT sector has matured,
while the ET ser-vice sector will only boom
in the coming years. American firms are
already asking their management about their
China and India strategies. MNCs will also
increase outsourcing their design automation
needs to India in the next few years,"
said Mr P.Chaudhuri, head marketing, Neilsoft.
Industrial machinery, construction engineering,
automo-tive, and software, were some sectors
that would be outsourcing their ET services
to slash production time and prevent costly
rework.
