DOHA • Qatar's constant construction activity has attracted, Neilsoft, a specialist engineering services company, to the country.

Neilsoft, based in the western Indian city of Pune, is planning to use Doha and Dubai as springboards for an initial foray into the Middle East region. The company already has offices in the US, the UK and China.

Neilsoft is looking at revenues of $14m this financial year, but with a 50 to 60 per cent growth rate, is hoping to hit the $100m mark in the 2011-12 fiscal. According to director R D Shah: "We are here to offer engineering services to the building and industrial sectors. At some stage, we hope to venture into the energy sector here."

The company is hoping to open shop here and in Dubai and garner fees of $500,000 by March next year. Starting off as software developers, the company has moved to the services sector.

Outsourcing of engineering services to India will earn that country revenues of $20bn by 2015, a figure that will substantially grow, Shah said. He stated that as is the practice with other Neilsoft offices outside India, the Doha office will account for 10 per cent of the company's activities here while the rest will be carried out from the firm;'s Pune offices. This allows the company to save substantially on costs.

The company now has 730 employees on its rolls which will rise to 3,500 by 2011-2012.

Regional Sales Manager (Middle East) V G K Nayar stated: "We are talking to companies here and into two to three months, we should get contracts."

Neilsoft offers services in structural, electrical and material engineering, piping, air-conditioning and fire protection. "Our software background allows us to use the latest in design tools which enables us to deliver quality services," according to Shah.

The company, with its experiences in places like the US, Europe and the Asia-Pacific, has gained an in-depth knowledge of the respective regions' building codes, stated Shah.

He added that Qatar's use of the British code and Neilsoft's knowledge of the ins and outs of it, should give it a leg-up on other competitors as well as make an impression on contractors here.
